Common questions
Is it really free?
Yes. Baking Powder is free on the App Store for Mac, iPhone and iPad, on the Microsoft Store for Windows, and on Google Play for Android, and it runs in the browser at play.bakingpowder.app. There are no subscriptions, no paid tiers, and nothing to unlock.
Can I use it in the browser?
Yes. The desktop app runs in Chrome, Safari and Firefox at play.bakingpowder.app, with nothing to install. Click once to start, since browsers do not play sound until you do. It is laid out for a desktop sized window.
Is there an iPhone app?
Yes. Baking Powder for iPhone is a lightweight version for generating song ideas on the go, built from the same engine. It ships on the same App Store listing as the Mac app, and there is an Android version on Google Play.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no account and no sign in, and the apps collect no personal information. Read the privacy policy.
Can I use my own plugins?
No. The synth and every effect are built in. The desktop app ships twelve effects, and the mobile apps ship six of them. Baking Powder does not host third party plugins of any kind, including Audio Units and VSTs.
Where are my projects stored?
On your device. On the desktop, projects, presets, and audio stay local unless you move or share them, and every save keeps a local checkpoint of the file it replaced. In the browser, projects open from and save to files on your computer. On the mobile apps, your saved chords and setup stay in the app.
